01 What cookies are
A cookie is a small text file that a website asks your browser to save on your device. The next time you visit, the browser sends it back, allowing the site to recognize you, remember settings, or measure usage. Some cookies expire when you close your browser ("session cookies"); others stay until they reach an expiry date ("persistent cookies"). This page also covers similar technologies such as local storage and pixel tags, which behave like cookies for these purposes.
02 Categories of cookies on this site
Essential cookies
These keep the site functional. They're set automatically and cannot be turned off because without them the site cannot deliver what you've asked for (such as remembering that you closed the cookie banner).
| Name | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|
| bbk_consent | Stores your cookie preferences | 12 months |
Analytics cookies (optional)
Set by Google Analytics 4. They collect anonymized, aggregate information about how visitors use the site — which pages are popular, how long visits last, what device and country traffic comes from. They are not used to identify you personally.
| Name | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|
| _ga | Distinguishes unique users | 2 years |
| _ga_* | Persists session state for GA4 | 2 years |
Session recording (optional)
Set by Microsoft Clarity. Records anonymized sessions (mouse movement, clicks, scrolls) and aggregates them into heatmaps. Form inputs and sensitive text are masked by default. Used to understand which design choices are working and which aren't.
| Name | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|
| _clck | Anonymous user ID for Clarity | 1 year |
| _clsk | Connects multiple page views within a session | 1 day |
| CLID | Identifies the first session | 1 year |
03 Your choices
You have three ways to control cookies on this site:
- Use the panel above to turn analytics and session recording on or off. Changes apply immediately and are remembered for future visits.
- Use your browser settings to block or delete cookies for any site. Most modern browsers let you do this site-by-site. Note that blocking essential cookies may make parts of the site stop working.
- Use platform opt-outs:
- Google: Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on
- Microsoft: opt out via your Microsoft account privacy settings
04 Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control
This site honors the Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal. If your browser sends a GPC signal, analytics and session-recording cookies are automatically treated as declined, regardless of any other preference. The classic "Do Not Track" signal is no longer widely supported by browsers and is no longer used as a primary signal here, but I still default to least-intrusive settings if it is sent.
05 Changes to this policy
If I add or remove cookies, or change the categories above, I'll update this page and reset the consent banner so you can re-confirm your choices. The "Last updated" date at the top shows the most recent revision.
